Complete Device Health Analysis: Drives & Batteries
The Drive Health Viewer provides comprehensive health analysis for both storage devices and batteries. For drives, it uses SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) to assess HDDs, SSDs, and NVMe drives. For laptops and portable devices, it also analyzes battery health including capacity degradation, cycle count, and estimated remaining lifespan. Boot any device into our PXE environment to run a quick or full health check that collects critical metrics without erasing any data. View detailed reports with overall health scores to help you decide whether to resell, recycle, or securely wipe each device.
Under the Hood
How It Works
The system operates through a bootable iPXE environment. Users boot the target device via USB, ISO, or network PXE and select "Drive Health Check" from the menu. Choose between Quick (~5 seconds, SMART attributes only) or Full (~2 minutes, includes self-test) analysis. The tool runs smartctl on all detected drives, collecting key indicators: power-on hours, reallocated sectors, temperature, SSD wear levels, and more. For laptops, battery data is also collected: design vs. current capacity, cycle count, charge status, and temperature. Results are POSTed to itadtools.com with a verification code displayed on screen. Users can claim reports manually, or organizations with API keys have reports automatically associated. Each component receives a health score (0-100) based on weighted analysis of critical attributes.
